The Merthyr Valley Ramblers Walks Programme

Ramblers Groups Walks Programmes:

Ramblers Groups Officers:

  • This programme has been organised by Merthyr Valley Ramblers Group. The Group is a member of the Ramblers Association and is committed to campaigning for conservation and improved access to the countryside, and also the protection of footpaths and of rights of way.

  • Locally, the Group helps promote and upgrade specific walk routes, campaigns for those rights of way under threat and organises guided walks and social events.

  • If you are interested in becoming a member of the Group, please contact:
Gaynor Jayne, 3, Summerfield Place, Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil.

  • The walks are open to non-members. however, after attending three walks you will be invited to become a member of the Ramblers Association. The Merthyr Valley Ramblers would like to thank all the walks leaders who have helped to make this a successful programme. Discover the countryside in and around Merthyr with our Walks Programme. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, local or a visitor to the area, there will be a guided walk just for you! Each walk is circular ( Unless specified), giving you a chance to see interesting places, meet people and learn something new about the area. There are walks of differing types, lengths and standards; just choose the one that suits you.

What do I need to bring?

  • Please wear strong shoes or walking boots.

  • The weather can change very quickly, particularly on the hills, so bring a waterproof and wear warm clothing.

  • For your own safety, walk leaders may refuse to accept inadequately clad walkers. On all walks, you will need to bring a packed lunch and a drink.

  • Dogs? If you bring a dog, it should be on a lead and kept under close control at all times. Please remember that most of the walks cross farm and open grazing land.

  • What about the weather? Whatever the weather the leader will be at the starting point to meet you. However, in the case of bad weather conditions the walk may be altered or cancelled at the leader’s discretion.

  • Where do I meet? Please check your programme before each walk for time of departure. Ordnance Survey Map grid references are given in each walk description. If you have problems with transport, perhaps we can help - please ring.
