Talgarth is a small market town on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons
National Park. The
confluence of the small rivers Enig and Ellywe
is located in the centre of the town. the passage of these clean
fast flowing rivers through
the narrow streets of the town makes for a pleasant
aspect. Talgarth is one of the centres for tourism in the Brecon Beacons
National Park.
The medieval Tower Bridge crosses the Ennig in Talgarth.
There is only one other Tower
Bridge located in Mid Wales.
The tower and present church were both built in the
14th century to guard the river crossing and the town. The town was
granted borough status early in the 14th century and this suggests that
Talgarth at that time was a prosperous centre for trade and agriculture.
Bronllys, near Talgarth, has a well
preserved Norman Keep.
