Cefn Coed is well known in South Wales for its splendid curved Railway Viaduct with 14
arches. Build in 1866 to carry the Brecon and Merthyr railway line. It has recently been
refurbished by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council with the assistance of a grant from
the National Lottery. Cefn and its sister viaduct at Pontsarn are now part of the Taf Trail Long
Distance Footpath.
The locality makes an ideal base from which to visit all the
attractions of South Wales. The village of Cefn Coed is located at the crossroads of
the A470 and A465. The A470 is the main South to North Wales trunk road. The A465 connects
the M50 through Abergavenny, Cefn Coed and onto Swansea and West Wales.
