Alan Ward (Area Manager – East) left the Brecon Beacons National Park
Authority in 2010 after 22 years of service. Alan’s first involvement
with the National Park was as a young volunteer in 1968 but reached the
dizzy heights of Area Manager (East) by 2010. Alan had a leading role in
the National Park Authority’s Guided Walks Programme and was
instrumental in helping many leaders, both staff and volunteer, attain
national governing body awards such as the Walking Group Leader and
Mountain Leader (Summer) awards. Alan also trained these leaders in
first aid through the Rescue Emergency Care (REC) scheme which was
specifically designed as an appropriate first aid scheme for anyone
involved in the great outdoors. Alan is still resident in Brecon and can
now offer these courses to the general public.
