Farmers Markets in Abergavenny
National Association of
Farmers Markets:
The first farmers market was established in Bath in October 1997.
Today there are around 300 markets throughout
the United Kingdom. They offer the most direct way for British
farmers to sell their produce to the consumer cutting out the middle
man, reducing transport and packaging costs, and ensuring that the food
is as fresh as possible. It is a requirement of the national
association that all the products sold on a stall must have been produce
to by the stallholder giving the consumer the best possible opportunity
to enquire about the foods they are buying. Farmers Markets are held all over Wales and offer an excellent
opportunity for members of the public to purchase local produce at
competitive prices direct from the producer in that locality. all the
items on sale on a particular stall should have been produced by the
stall holder who is usually happy to answer any questions about the
method of production and the quality of the produce.
