Facilities for the Disabled and the Brecon Beacons National Park

Locations with Disabled Access:

  • The Mountain Centre   Most popular visitor attraction in the Brecon Beacons. Disabled drivers may park close to the building, at the top of the driveway. There is wheel-chair access to all parts of the building. For those who cannot walk, refreshments may be taken to cars parked on the driveway (but not to the main car park, please). There is a special toilet for wheelchair users and each of the main toilet blocks has a cubicle with grab rails.
  • Brecon Beacons National Park Authority have a responsibility for providing facilities for disable visitors and should be your first port of call for information, and observations.

  • Craig Y Nos Easy to follow paths for gentle walks through towering trees and along rushing rivers. Contact centre for further details on suitability of these footpaths and with regard to information boards especially designed for the visually impaired.

  • Pwll Y Wrach - is the finest and most accessible of the Trust's reserves. 0.5 mile south-east of Talgarth this Site of Special Scientific Interest is one of Wales' most important oak-ash woodlands, with plants such as tutsan and toothwort. A specially constructed Easy Access Trail. Contact Brecknock Wildlife Trust for details.

  • Garwnant Forest Centre There are several walking routes suitable for the family. Some routes are suitable for disabled visitors

  • Parc Cwm Darren - Facilities for disabled visitors  include ramped access to the visitor centre and toilets. There is a specially equipped angling peg for anglers with wheelchairs. Some paths are accessible in part.

  • Brecknock Museum - Bell right of entrance steps for wheel chair access via side door. Wheel chair accessible lift to all floors. Stair lifts. Assistance needed. Car parking: 2 disabled parking spaces available at front of Museum. Toilets: Disabled WC with women's.
  • Brecon Cathedral & Heritage Centre.- Wheelchair access to all buildings, (ramp to Cathedral). Fairly flat throughout. Car parking: Adjacent to Cathedral with kissing gate. Toilets: Disabled WC next to restaurant. 
  • Carreg Cennen Castle - Picnic area in the meadow field allows fine views of the castle for the less able. Wheelchair access to shop and cafe requires assistance. Car parking Large parking area at entrance. Toilets Disabled WC in car park; one in shop due to open Summer 1999.
  • Llandovery Heritage Centre - Wheelchair access to all of building - chair lift to upstairs. Car parking Large car park behind building with reserved spaces for the disabled. Toilets Disabled WC in car park; one in shop due to open Summer 1999.
  • Usk Reservoir - Car park with wheelchair access to picnic area, will need assistance. Able-bodied can walk around reservoir.
