Christianity and Churches

The Web Brecon Beacons
The Brecon Beacons National Park has many fine examples of ecclesiastical architecture including Brecon Cathedral, Llanthony Abbey, Partrishow church to name just three of the finest examples. Presumably Christianity in this locality dates back to the later period of the Roman Empire and the conversion of the Empire under Constantine. after the fall of the Roman Empire Wales was divided into regions ruled by independent tribal king's.  Sometime during the 5th century of the predominant ruler in the Brecon Beacons area was named Brychan. hence the locality which he ruled became known as Brycheiniog. It may safely be assumed of that Brecon is the derivation of Brychan.
The Swansea and Brecon Diocese has an excellent guide to visiting the Churches in the diocese. Swansea and Brecon Diocesan Guide. Some individual links can be found below. There are also several trails you can follow to help you explore a group of churches all with a common theme. Church Trails.
